Dr. Sam H. Mitchell
Dr. Sam grew up in East Tennessee. He later received his undergraduate and veterinary training at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. This is where he met his wife of 30 years, Renee. In 1981, they moved to Waynesville to join the practice at Junaluska. His early years were primarily spent in farm animal, equine, and some zoo animal medicine, but as the county changed so did his medical focus to small animal medicine and surgery. Together, he and Renee have raised three exceptional children and are active in their local church and foreign missions.

Dr. Bill Snyder
Dr. Bill began working at JAH in 1970 as a volunteer 8th-grader from Clyde working under the founder, Dr. Mack Setser and his then partner, Dr. Frank Enloe. Dr. Bill did his undergraduate studies at North Carolina State University and attended veterinary school at Auburn University, receiving his DVM degree in 1982. This was followed by a post-doctorate internship at Texas A&M University before returning to JAH in 1983. Dr. Snyder continues to realize his dream of practicing his profession in his home county while he and his spouse, Dr. Beth Snyder, raise their three children.

Dr. Mike Giusti
Dr. Mike is one of the rare native Floridians, having been born and raised in Orlando. He received an animal science degree from Clemson University where he played varsity soccer followed by a doctorate from Atlantic Veterinary College in Prince Edward Island, Canada. After graduation, Dr. Mike practiced for a year in Alabama and two years in Orlando before making Western North Carolina his home. He lives in Clyde with his wife, Heather, and two sons, Mason and Walker.

Dr. Renée Mitchell
Dr. Renee graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 1980. She and her husband, Dr. Sam Mitchell, met and were married during their junior year of veterinary school. After practicing for a year in Clarksville Tennessee, the Mitchells were anxious to return to the mountains, both having been raised in East Tennessee. The mountains of North Carolina were close enough to the rolling hills of East Tennessee to call Waynesville “home”. When not at the clinic, Dr. Renee enjoys spending time with God, church and family.

Dr. Beth Snyder
Dr. Beth has lived in many locations including Mexico, Taiwan, and Maryland before landing near San Antonio, Texas. She received her BS and DVM degrees from Texas A&M University. Dr. Beth considers herself a true maroon-blooded Texas Aggie, but also jumped at the chance to move to Western North Carolina. After working at hospitals in Asheville and Canton, she made JAH her permanent home since 1988. She lives with her husband, Dr. Bill Snyder, and her three children in Clyde.

Dr. Paul Bevilacqua
Dr. Paul hails from Long Island, NY, but now considers himself a reformed Southerner. After surviving a household with three brothers and two sisters, Dr. Paul attended Boston College and then received his DVM from the University of Georgia in 1980. He joined JAH that summer and has been here ever since. He is married to his veterinary school classmate, Dr. Anne Armstrong, and they live in Woody Cove where they have raised three beautiful daughters and one handsome son.

Dr. Anne Armstrong
Dr. Anne grew up in Richmond, Virginia, and attended the University of Virginia. She received her veterinary degree from the University of Georgia where she met her husband of 28 years, Dr. Paul Bevilacqua. Dr. Anne enjoys practicing veterinary medicine and states that “Animal owners are a pretty good group of people. This is a good occupation for me.” Dr. Anne is also a terrific mom to four great kids.
