About Us

Junaluska Animal Hospital was established by Dr. Mack Setser in 1953. At that time Dr. Setser saw primarily large animals. There were many diary farms in the area that needed care for their draft horses, mules and dairy cows. Dogs and cats accounted for only a small part of rural veterinary practices of the day, and Mack’s original office had only a few cages.

Today, Junaluksa Animal Hospital is a small animal practice that shares ownership between three veterinarians. Dr. William Snyder, Dr. Michael Giusti and Dr. Jeffery Alt. Dr. Snyder began working at Junaluska Animal Hospital at the age of 14, sweeping and mopping the floors under the watchful eye of Dr. Setser. Both Dr. Mike Giusti and Dr. Jeffery Alt moved to Haywood County from Florida with their families and have been with Junaluska Animal Hospital for many years.

From the days of Dr. Setser, it has always been Junaluska Animal Hospital's goal to serve Haywood County. The doctors and staff are focused on providing great care to our patients and our clients too!

In March of 2016, we opened Haywood Animal Emergency to provide much needed veterinary emergency services to our community and surrounding communities as well.

Junaluska Animal Hospital has grown quite a bit since 1953. Our facility was just added onto and built back up from the concrete foundation, in 2018. We now have 10 exam rooms to serve our patients/clients. Two of our exam rooms are cat specific with special tables that are heated to keep them as calm and comfortable as possible during their visit. We also have a quiet room for our clients to spend some time with their beloved pet's before they cross the rainbow bridge. The ownership really put a lot of time and thought into our new facility so it could continue to serve the community well for years to come.

When clients come in for a visit with their pet's, they can expect to see smiling faces, warm hearts and a staff that wants to treat their pet as their own. We love Haywood County and look forward to many more years of providing the best veterinary care and customer service possible.
